A recommendation

Can I just say that I love my dear friend Meredith. I haven't seen her in several years, but I feel like she is still sitting beside me in Composition Theory. This morning I have a few minutes before I have to head to Greenville for my newly found summer job, and I glanced at her blog.

I ask that you stop by there and read what she is learning. Beautiful stuff! It was like a little devotional on my computer screen.

In the kitchen this morning I was wondering if I had to describe my life in one word what would it be? I picked the word ironic because that is truly what it has been. Maybe I'll post another day about how ironic my life has turned out to be, but after reading Meredith's blog, it has been put into perspective again because all the things I view as irony, God views as specially planned and perfect. So many times in my life, I worry and stress over things that he already has worked out. I'm learning to just stand and stand.

I think about Ephesians where Paul explains putting on the whole armor of God, and he says, "Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." Ephesians 6:13 I'm certain that there are times in life (I know there have been in mine) where I do everything I know how to do, and in the end, all I can do is stand. I pray for the strength to stand.

I pray that for you today. What do you need God to do? Have you done everything? Why don't you try just standing for a moment. Let God be God, and you just stand and watch him win the battle for you.

Thanks, Meredith!

Cardboard Testimony

My friend Karis has a friend Emily (I don't know her) who posted this video on her blog. It is absolutely amazing. I watched it and cried. And I'm not a crier. I'm amazed and humbled at God's love and at the depth that he would bring me from. Amazing.

Abby, Abby, Abby

I recently told my aunt that I think people enjoy my posts about Abby most of all. I'm not offended by this because she really is the cutest thing in the world! Last night after a wonderful dinner of black bean cakes (if I can ever motivate myself, I'll post the recipe), we went swimming at a friend's pool. We did not account for how cold it would be. The water was pretty tepid, but the air was cold and the pool sits in the shade of several trees.

Abby enjoyed it pretty well. She really liked it once she learned to splash. I'm going to post a video of her in the pool. My daughter has certainly come into her personality, and it is SO MUCH FUN!!!!

Enjoy the pics.

More Abby

Here's a video we shot today of Abby showing us where the tiger paw is. You can imagine how excited her daddy was to see her point to the paw. Of course, we coaxed her a little bit, but she did point to it. Also, I just want to say that I do know more than, "Throw it in the pan!" I hope you enjoy.

OLD pictures

Have you ever noticed that sometimes when you least expect it, you run across pictures or notes or memorabilia from your past, and it makes you pause for just a moment and reflect? I had one of those moments tonight. Jason brought some boxes from his mom's house to ours for me to go through to find some things to put in a yard sale next weekend. I found some things alright. I found photos and letters and other wonderful memories stuffed in the bottom of an Ingles milk box. I thought I would share a few with you so that you can have a smile and walk a bit down memory lane with me.

This is me and my friend Amy Duncan. She is now Amy Duncan Fuller. We were in kindergarten when this was taken. I remember vividly how we were doing a program about the alphabet, and because mine and Amy's initials were the same, she got to be Miss A (Achoo) because she was a beautiful, cherubic little girl, and I got to be Mr. (changed for me to Ms.) D (Donuts) because I was thin and had short brown hair. Amy and I often kidded about this years later. It's amazing what God does because when Abby was in the NICU, one of her nurses was the beautiful, cherubic Amy Duncan Fuller. It brings me tears even now to think about how God surrounds and cares for his children.

This is a picture of me playing at my Nannie's house when I was in elementary school. I know it is her house because of the couch. I'll never forget the smell of that couch.

This is my family one Easter when we went to Memphis to visit friends. It's so funny how long my mom's hair is and how dark my dad's hair is. We went to Graceland on that visit and my mom got her favorite cup. She still uses it to this day. You can't even tell anymore that the cup says Elvis on it. Mama insists that she uses it because it has a handle and she likes the way it feels in her hand. I'm sure it is because it has a logo of the king on it!!!

Here's the last one. This picture was taken when I went with a group to Charleston for a math meet in the 8th grade. I know, I know, I'm a nerd. I was a nerd then and I'm still a nerd now, but I have to say that they would let ANYONE on the math team. I know this is true because I STINK at math. I can't even put kids in groups. That's how bad I am. Who knows, but I got a trip to Charleston.

The Pale Blue Dot

I had my College and Careers class over for Bible study last night, and we watched a video by Louie Giglo called Indescribable. It truly was indescribable. He talks about the enormity of our universe and how small we are compared to the great big God we serve.

One image he shows is called the Pale Blue Dot. I had never seen this photograph, but it was taken by Voyager 1. The beams of light are sunlight, and that tiny speck caught in one of the rays is Earth. It's amazing that as small as we are in the scheme of the universe, God CHOSE (don't miss that -- Chose) to come and save us in our sin.

Take a moment and reflect on that. It's utterly amazing!

Abby, Say Abby

The video of Abby saying her name.

Our Vain Little Daughter

This weekend was VERY busy. We had Jason's nephew all weekend because their parents were in Cade's Cove for a wedding. They are such GREAT kids! They helped with Abby and didn't fight at all (except over who got to hold her). We enjoyed having them here!

On Saturday, we went to see Prince Caspian, the new Narnia movie. I would definitely recommend it. It was filled with action and the storyline of course was wonderful. The boys (Jason included) really seemed to enjoy it. After that we went to Liberty Idol to watch our friend Daniel perform. He did such a great job, but unfortunately the crowd didn't vote him through to the next round. What is up with that!

To add to our excitement, Abby has learned to say her name. It is so precious. We will say "Abby" and point to her or a picture of her and she repeats back, "Abby." It is so much fun to watch her do new things. I can't believe that she will be one in just a month. (A month today, actually).

I've put a few pictures of Abby with her daddy up, and as soon as my upload finishes, I'll post a video of Abby saying her name. You have to wait until the very end to hear her say it, but she does; I promise!
